The Team
We are a unique group of Indonesia wave veterans who have come together to ensure your surf and holiday experience in Indonesia is unforgettable and trouble-free. We are all about sharing the stoke of surfing and having maximum fun in the ocean.

Matt Cruden was one of the early surf pioneers to search and surf the archipelagos along the west coast of Sumatra in the early 1990s. When he was captaining the Surf Travel Company’s first surf charter vessel in the Mentawai Islands in 1994, there were only three surf boats servicing the entire coast. So in 1995, he built the Manglaui Ndulu in Sulewesi, becoming the fourth. She is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Indonesian wooden vessel afloat today.

Todd Roesler was also busy exploring the Sumatran coastline for waves in the early 1990s. His travels took him ever more ulu (far away), to Indonesia’s easternmost islands and beyond. In 1996, Todd built his Phinisi-style sloop Nomad on the very same beach in Sulewesi as Matt’s Mango had been built. Truly, they are sister ships. Todd skippered Nomad through West Java’s waters for over a decade, chasing the legendary waves of Pulau Panaitan and surrounding areas. Nomad and Toddy are highly regarded by all of those who’ve sailed with them.

Adam ‘Wal’ Roffey earned his international-standard Chef’s Apprenticeship ticket in Australia in 1997. Since then he has spent just about every day of his life in Indonesia, chasing waves and the lifestyle that goes with it. Wal surfed the archipelago’s eastern islands right through to the Mentawais, Nias and Telo group from 1997 through 2000. In 2000, he operated a surf charter vessel based in Bali, running trips to Lemongan, Lombok and the Sumbawa group. In 2001, he signed on as chef aboard the Mangalui Ndulu in Sumatran waters. Eight years, a million barrels, and as many good times later, Wal knows Sumatra as well as anyone. Wal wrote a monthly segment in Tracks magazine entitled, appropriately enough, “Wal’s Kitchen”.

Sharing the natural wealth
Along with the resort’s other Australian associates, Johnny Farlow and Kevin ‘Budgie’, our aim is to provide nothing short of the best holiday experience our guests have ever had, while sharing the passion for surfing that we live.

A good time had by all
Over the past 15 years, we’ve seen many changes and developments in this part of the world, but the ‘magic’ is still very much here. Our collective experience of 40 years in the area is second to none, so good times and a fabulous selection of great waves are what we’re all about.

Beyond the resort
Resort Latitude Zero has ground-handling and logistics managers in Jakarta, Padang, Medan and Guning Sitoli who all work together to make sure that your journey is as smooth as possible. They can arrange for overnight accommodations, surfboards, luggage handling, storage and transfers when and where necessary.

Qualified skippers
Our boat captains are all fully ticketed to international standards. In fact we usually send our vessels out with two captains on board, both for the extra manpower and as safety backup at sea.
